This is an exercise on choice (do choose an activity that has no time pressure). Sometimes, when we pause to quieten, we don't really commit to pausing. Part of us might still be tense and ready to go. To fully commit to the stop, try actually giving yourself the option to walk away and continue at a later time. Even if you don't end up leaving the activity unfinished, considering it as a real option can make a difference.
📖 Even though I can't always choose to leave my activity unfinished, a momentary stop to contemplate it can be helpful. It is a way of renewing consent from myself. Sometimes, I can switch my activity, other times, I don't want to suffer the consequences, so I keep going. Even then, a momentary stop gives the space and the opportunity to continue in a different way than before; a brief second to remember change is possible.
10 minutes of mindful movement a day 🍂
For the month of October I will be posting a different thought/theme each day to bring some Alexander inspired mindfulness into daily activities.
To follow along, simply
🚴 Choose an activity. It can be the same one or different each day
(the more inconsequential and boring the better)
🔍 Use the activity as an opportunity to explore the theme
📖 Take note of anything interesting (I will be sharing some of my own notes/observations as I follow the themes too)
If you have any questions, thoughts, observations, disbeliefs, challenges, I would genuinely love to discuss it, so feel free to reach out.
Disclaimers:
1. These are some thoughts I have found helpful during my Alexander journey. They are definitely not all the technique is or has to offer.
2. ⚠ Health and Safety ⚠
Don't choose an activity that requires you to handle a vehicle or sharp object, or can put you or others in danger.
