Day 27

Availability for movement is a great indicator that we are not either completely switched off or tense. We can look for that in any joints or body parts. You can look for that slight sway or tiny readjustments in the hip/knee/ankle joints. That means they are supporting you so you don't collapse on the floor, but without locking and blocking all movement.

📖 Personal notes: We all have joints we "like" to lock out of habit. For me, it's the knees. The muscles around the knees tend to gather tension (even from psychological stress, which was funny to discover). Of course every part affects everything else, so I find it useful to ask myself if I am available for movement; in general as well as in specific parts/joints. I might not end up moving much, but the fact that I am not bracing against movement is enough.

10 minutes of mindful movement a day 🍂

For the month of October I will be posting a different thought/theme each day to bring some Alexander inspired mindfulness into daily activities.

To follow along, simply

🚴 Choose an activity. It can be the same one or different each day

(the more inconsequential and boring the better)

🔍 Use the activity as an opportunity to explore the theme

📖 Take note of anything interesting (I will be sharing some of my own notes/observations as I follow the themes too)

If you have any questions, thoughts, observations, disbeliefs, challenges, I would genuinely love to discuss it, so feel free to reach out.

Disclaimers:

1. These are some thoughts I have found helpful during my Alexander journey. They are definitely not all the technique is or has to offer.

2. ⚠ Health and Safety ⚠

Don't choose an activity that requires you to handle a vehicle or sharp object, or can put you or others in danger.
