What information can you get from your peripheral vision about the space around you? What about the sounds? We perceive space through multiple senses all the time, unconsciously. When we lift the sense of urgency from an activity, we can notice a lot more. And vice versa! When we start noticing more, the sense of urgency quietens down, and we are more likely to move freer and calmer.
Following up on the theme from 2 days ago, let's come back to the space around us. Thinking of the space/distance between ourselves and objects around us, is a nice reminder that there is more than just what we are currently interacting with. There is space available to move into, or expand towards.
📖 It was quite humbling as a musician to notice how little I pay attention to the sounds around me most of the time. It was also quite fun to explore the switch from hearing a polyphony of sounds outside, to going into an empty and echoing building. Spacial information through sound is definitely something I will be exploring more.
10 minutes of mindful movement a day 🍂
For the month of October I will be posting a different thought/theme each day to bring some Alexander inspired mindfulness into daily activities.
To follow along, simply
🚴 Choose an activity. It can be the same one or different each day
(the more inconsequential and boring the better)
🔍 Use the activity as an opportunity to explore the theme
📖 Take note of anything interesting (I will be sharing some of my own notes/observations as I follow the themes too)
If you have any questions, thoughts, observations, disbeliefs, challenges, I would genuinely love to discuss it, so feel free to reach out.
Disclaimers:
1. These are some thoughts I have found helpful during my Alexander journey. They are definitely not all the technique is or has to offer.
2. ⚠ Health and Safety ⚠
Don't choose an activity that requires you to handle a vehicle or sharp object, or can put you or others in danger.
