Each of us often finds one more familiar; it pulls our attention stronger than the other. This is not to say they can't be balanced, but as an exercise, it can be interesting to observe what happens when we switch. How do they each feel? What effect do they have on our bodies?
📖 My personal tendency is to go pretty deep into internal focus, so I find it quite balancing and calming to notice my environment more. I know this is not the case for a lot of friends and colleagues. In this round of observation, I noticed that internal focus made my face more serious, while switching to external focus brought a soft smile. Even though I've played with this many times, I still found it quite empowering to switch between the two.
🎢 Environment and different conditions play a huge role, so it can be fun to come back to this one at different times during the day
10 minutes of mindful movement a day 🍂
For the month of October I will be posting a different thought/theme each day to bring some Alexander inspired mindfulness into daily activities.
To follow along, simply
🚴 Choose an activity. It can be the same one or different each day
(the more inconsequential and boring the better)
🔍 Use the activity as an opportunity to explore the theme
📖 Take note of anything interesting (I will be sharing some of my own notes/observations as I follow the themes too)
If you have any questions, thoughts, observations, disbeliefs, challenges, I would genuinely love to discuss it, so feel free to reach out.
Disclaimers:
1. These are some thoughts I have found helpful during my Alexander journey. They are definitely not all the technique is or has to offer.
2. ⚠ Health and Safety ⚠
Don't choose an activity that requires to to handle a vehicle or sharp object, or can put you or others in danger.
